The gentleman’s guide to the MAN-icure

Since the majority of men no longer work in physical occupations, there’s not much excuse to have unkempt, dirty nails. You may not pay that much attention to them, but other people certainly will. Your nails are clearly visible during presentations, while eating, drinking, and even shaking hands. Thankfully, nail grooming can easily be outsourced completely to a salon, such as TRU Salon + Spa, where we’re experts at cleaning up your man hands with our Gentleman’s Manicure

But, what exactly is a manicure, and what will be done? A manicure is a cosmetic treatment of the fingernails and hands, involving cutting and shaping the nails, removal of the cuticles, and the softening of rough areas, such as callouses.

First, your nails will be shaped and filed with the natural shape of your nail to ensure nail strength. Next, the nail technician will apply a cuticle cream to help soften the cuticles in order to push them down and even out the line. Once you're done with the cuticle phase, you're ready for the soaking phase. Your technician will work on one hand while you soak the other in warm water. This portion will also include a hand massage using reflexology techniques to completely relax your hands.

Now, we know the word “manicure” brings forth visions of eye-catching nail polish, but this is a MANicure! While you are certainly free to request a nail polish color if you would like, usually we recommend clear polish for our men. This is because clear polishes are a sealant that protects your nails and keeps them strong. Additionally, if you happen to be a nail biter you will now have a barrier between your teeth and your actual nail. The appearance isn’t that noticeable- your nails might look slightly shinier- but if the thought of any polish makes you at all uncomfortable, feel free to pass on this step.

Regular manicures will not only help keep your hands looking presentable, but they’ll also keep your nails trimmed, calluses controlled, and skin moisturized. In addition, a hand massage will help to relieve tension and stimulate circulation. If you’re ready to allow us to address your man hands, give us a call at one of our two locations:
